Josey is onmilingual, something she wasn't fully aware of until someone pointed it out to her. To her, it's always sounded like she's hearing and speaking English. Her control over languages also extends to fictional languages and those of celestial beings.
As a prophetess, she has a degree of clairvoyance, but currently has no control over her visions. When she was very young, she thought they were nightmares. They often still come to her in dreams or when she is awake, but unfocused. They are usually precipitated or followed by extreme headaches.
Her visions are not limited to dreams. It they can also come in the form of pyschometry. If an item is emotionally charged enough or connected to someone that is, she'll get a flash of the past or things that will happen in the future due to that event.
She has a high stamina level, as running is her preferred workout. Josey has always understood that, sometimes, running away is the way to keep yourself alive, not something to be considered a weakness.
֎ She harbors a secret suspicion that Eli's dog, Loa, likes her better. ֎ Josey is mildly to cats, but she will cuddle every single one she comes across and takes allergy medicine to live with one. ֎ Her brother is unaware of her abilities. Josey figures that the fewer people that know, the better. ֎ When she leaves notes for people, she always leaves them in different languages. Especially if she doesn't really want people to know what they say. ֎ She's jealous of vampires and other supernatural beings that have "cooler" abilities than she does. ֎ Her favorite movie is The Princess Bride because she is a not-so-secret romantic. ֎ Her favorite food is breakfast cereal (almost any kind) and milk. She'll eat it for all three meals if no one stops her. ֎ She doesn't take medication for her migraines. She thinks they are a punishment for seeing things and not being able to do anything about them. ֎ She will stay up as late as possible to make herself as tired as possible in order to avoid dreaming. ֎ She often is found sleepwalking as part of her dream-visions. Sometimes she's lead to somewhere important. Others, she more or less puts herself in danger because she's unaware of her surroundings. ֎ Avoids physical touch because she often sees things about the person she's touching that she'd rather not know.
Josey didn't mean to be a prophetess. In fact, she actively tried not to be for most of her life. When she was four or five and could begin to communicate coherently with her parents, they told her the things she saw were just very bad dreams and not to speak of them with anyone. They figured out the truth, but they tried to conceal it from their young daughter in order to try and prevent her gifts from developing. There were stories of the things that happened to those that could speak the future and being branded schizophrenic was the least of them. Instead, as she grew older, she grew more withdrawn as her abilities advanced with no formal training. She had few close friends outside of her immediate family. It was hard to make hang out with people when you kept seeing their boyfriends break up with them before it happened.
Esther and Zachariah gave Josey a normal life otherwise. She went to public schools, she went to church on Sundays and youth group on Wednesday nights at the local Episcopal church. She got good grades, but not perfect. Her parents hand an Air BnB type rental room that catered to the local supernatural community, so she grew up with an understanding that beings in this world came in all kinds. She dated once or twice, but as she suffered from extreme and unpredictable migraines - not to mention had an over protective older brother - it made staying with anyone long. Boys didn't like constantly having their dates cancelled at random because of her "illness."
She was content to live a relatively unknown life, choosing to go to a local community college to stay close to home and study English literature. It was a nice major and kept her in a library with books rather than in a field with people. Josey thought maybe she'd become a research librarian someday, something that would continue to keep her in the stacks and away from the masses. Even her visions had lessened. Until the night before her summer class final. She thought it was a bad dream. She discounted it. Until she got home to find her house in flames.
Her brother was away at university and escaped the fire that ravaged their house and took the lives of their parents. No one understood what had happened, no one understood why such kind and good people like the Whitleys would be killed. Josey did, though. In her dream, she'd heard her name called in anger, she'd felt the rage of the beings in her home as they could not find her. Demons had come looking not for her parents, but for her. She spent a few more days stationary, staying with a neighbor, long enough to begin seeing to final arrangements and for her brother to arrive and finish them. The minute he got home, she took off in the middle of the night and went on the run.
Living on the streets and in shelters, Josey kept on the move. She didn't want to put anyone else in danger by staying in any one place too long. The dreams were back and more frightening than ever. If she had visions of joyous events, they were always over shadowed by the darkness. It wasn't until she crashed into the angel Gabriel, literally, running away from what she thought to be demons (but who were just normal street criminals) two months later that she finally stopped. He took her in with his wife and they developed a bond as strong - if not stronger - than any she'd ever shared with her family. He helped her to develop her abilities, rather than repress them. Eventually, she moved out and is now living with her boyfriend.
